Earns 100 percent score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual index assessing LGBTQ workplace equality

NEW YORK, JAN. 28, 2021 – Assurant, Inc., (NYSE: AIZ), a leading global provider of housing and lifestyle solutions that support, protect and connect major consumer purchases, announced that, for the third consecutive year, it received a score of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s  2020 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality.

The index is administered annually by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people. Assurant’s efforts in satisfying all of CEI’s criteria earned a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

“As a global company, Assurant aims to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture where our employees feel respected and valued as we take a holistic approach that sparks innovation and enables growth,” said Alan Colberg, president and CEO of Assurant. “We are grateful to the HRC Foundation for their research and insights shared with all of the companies that participate. Earning the distinction as a best place to work for LGBTQ equality for the third consecutive year reinforces our commitment to continued progress and improvement.”

The CEI rates companies and top law firms on detailed criteria falling under five broad categories, including: 1) Non-discrimination policies; 2) Employment benefits; 3) Demonstrated organizational competency and accountability around LGBTQ diversity and inclusion; 4) Public commitment to LGBTQ equality; and 5) Responsible citizenship. The results of the 2021 CEI showcase how 1,142 U.S.-based companies are not only promoting LGBTQ-friendly workplace policies in the U.S., but also for the 57% of CEI-rated companies with global operations who are helping advance the cause of LGBTQ inclusion in workplaces abroad.
